Harold A. Battles
PIQUA — Harold A. Battles, 90, of Piqua, died at 2:27 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at Heartland of Piqua, Piqua. He was born in Lima on April 14, 1923, to the late Thomas L. and Maude (Waggoner) Battles. On Feb. 6, 1946, in Lima, he married Imogene McPheron. She survives.
Harold is also survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David A. and Patricia Battles, Flushing, Mich.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and John Goonan of Cambridge, Diana and David Harshbarger of Greenville and Pamela and Paul Miller of Piqua; 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffery E. Battles; one brother, Robert Battles; and one sister,Erma Patterson.
Harold graduated from Lima South High School, Lima. He was a live member of VFW 4874, Piqua, AMVETS, Troy, D. A. V., American Legion Post 184, and Piqua, Piqua Fish & Game. Harold proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II in the 35th Infantry Division. During his service, Harold received a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, EAME Theater Ribbon with five Bronze Stars. He worked at Kimberly Clark as a Slitter Operator for 10 years before retiring. Harold also worked at Champion Papers for 10 years.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua.
