SIDNEY - Beatrice M. "Bea" Slonkosky, 86, of 13801 Fulton Road, Sidney, passed away at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at the Dorothy Love Retirement Community.
She was born Feb. 9, 1926 in Shelby County, the daughter of the late Herbert and Bertha (Gerber) Fogt.
On June 2, 1956, she married Bernard C. Slonkosky, who preceeded her in death Aug. 9, 1990. She is survived by one son, Tim Slonkosky of Sidney and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Harold (Nancy) Bennett of Palm Coast, Fla.; one granddaughter, Rachel Alge of Toledo; one brother, Ivan Fogt of Sidney; and three sisters, Mrs. Richard (Maxine) Byle and Janice Rediess, both of Sidney, and Mrs. Sterkel (Arlene) Coyne of Piqua.
She was preceeded in death by two sisters, Evellyn Latimer and Dorothy Krites.
Mrs. Slonkosky was a retired first-grade teacher with the Sidney City School System. Beatrice received her master's degree in education from Wright State University. She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, the Retired Teacher's Association, the Orange Twp. SSE Club and the American University of Women. For more than 30 years, Beatrice volunteered her time and help to the St. John's Thrift Shop. She was an avid gardner and in her earlier years, helped her husband Bernard with work on their family farm.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jonathan W. Schriber officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney.
The family will receive friends from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney, and on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of services at the church.
The family suggest that memorials may be made to the St. John's Lutheran Church in memory of Beatice Slonkosky. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
