PIQUA — Bertha M. Smith, 74, of Piqua, passed away at 3:56 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018, at Heartland of Piqua. She was born July 8, 1944, in Logan, West Virginia, to the late Scott and Ruby (Adams) Smith. She married Everett Harvey Smith in October of 1962 in Chicago, and he precedes her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Viney of Piqua; one granddaughter, April (Ron) Smith of Piqua; two great-grandchildren, Everett and Esmae Smith; one sister, Evelyn (Hollie) Ward of Chicago; and one brother James (Dianne) Smith of Switzer, West Virginia.

Mrs. Smith received her cosmetology managing license from Continental Beauty School in Piqua. She departed from the beauty community after being diagnosed with leukemia. After receiving a clean bill of health, she spent the next 17 years as a friendly face at the McDonalds near the State Route 36, Interstate 75 exit.

She loved to attend church at Crossroad Church of God. She enjoyed yard work, collecting for her rock garden, and giving people a hard time, which was part of her wonderful sense of humor.

A service to honor her life will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2018, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
