Bonnie Lou (Fries) Smith

PIQUA — Bonnie Lou (Fries) Smith, age 65, formerly of Piqua, passed away at Koester Pavilion, in the care of Ohio's Hospice of Miami County, at 6:50 p.m. on July 4, 2018, with her siblings praying and singing at her bedside. With a ray of sunshine, and peace upon her face, she left us to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, forever free of pain. She was born July 17, 1952, in Piqua, to the late Richard O. Fries and Christina P. (Armstrong) Fries.

Survivors include her five children: Stephen (Misty) Smith, Summit, MS, Mindy (Brent) Guyton, Madison, AL, Jody (Shane) Berry, Pearl, MS, Jonathon Smith, Summit, MS and Jesse (Rebekah) Smith, Ridgeland, MS; 11 grandchildren: Austin, Linley and Collin Smith, Cole and Kaleigh Guyton, Cody (Bari) Berry and Tanner Berry, Krissa Smith, Elizabeth, Greyson and Emily Smith, and one great-granddaughter: Paisley Berry.

Bonnie is also survived by her mother: Christina P. (Armstrong) Fries; her 10 siblings: Gavin Fries, Christine Wray, Mark (Debbie) Fries, David (Freda) Fries, Becky (Mike) Kueterman, Janet Fries, Ruth (Dan) Hathaway, Jimmy Fries, Beth (Joel) Brannon, all of Piqua. And Carol Dickenson, Bradford, OH. Also surviving Bonnie are: a host of nieces, and nephews, which Bonnie loved them all.

She was preceded in death by her father: Richard O. Fries; a nephew: Jason Wright; a niece: Jennifer Smith; and a sister: Cathy (Fries) Powers.

Bonnie's hobbies were sewing, crafting, drawing, painting, scrapbooking and bicycling. Bonnie had an awesome work ethic, sometimes working two to three jobs a week to make ends meet. Through the years, she was employed at Midmark, Versailles, OH; ODOT, Piqua; Ross Aluminum, Sidney; Red Lobster, Piqua; Rally's, Piqua; and Ulbrich's IGA, Piqua.

Memories of Bonnie will be her faithfulness as a member of the Piqua Apostolic Temple, her joyous, singing and worship, the love she had (and showed) to everyone she met, her great big smile and giving spirit.

Bonnie's family would like to thank Hospice of Miami County and its staff for their "tender care" for her comfort in her short stay with them. Also, a huge thanks to the Koester Pavilion (her home) and its staff for the 10 years she spent in their care.

A Celebration of Life service in her honor will be held at the Piqua Apostolic Temple, 830 Covington Ave., Piqua, on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Daniel Hathaway officiating. Her family welcomes all who knew her to attend.

Bonnie's donation to science through the Boonshoft School of Medicine, will indicate that her resting place will be at the Rockfield Cemetery at Wright State Campus at a later date.
