David M. Jenkins (1935 - 2018)

PIQUA — David M. Jenkins, age 83, of Piqua, went home to be with the Lord, at 10:38 p.m. Oct. 9, 2018, at Piqua Manor Nursing Home. He was born March 19, 1935, in London, OH, to the late Howard Taft and Myrtle (Davenport) Jenkins. He married Becky (Davis) Jenkins May 15, 1971, in Piqua, OH. She survives.

He is survived by four daughters: Cheryl Mowery, Piqua, OH, Myra & Mike Bosse, Piqua, OH, Shoyn Street, Piqua, OH, Tammi Cable, Huntsburg, OH; one son: Matt & Raquel Carr, Sidney, OH; one son-in-law: Aaron Darner, Piqua, OH; one brother: Donald & Mona Jenkins, Piqua, OH; 16 grandchildren: Aaron Wright, Jesse Snow, Travis Bosse, Mitchell, Bosse, Nathan Street, Ryan Street, Olivia Street, Dustin Carr, Devyn Meeds, Jonathan Bramlette, Brandon Sibert, Cody Cable, Caitlin Cable, Janine (Carr) Brumbaugh, Lance and Kendall Darner; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter: Tara D. Darner Sept. 1, 2007; one brother: Richard Jenkins; and one son-in-law: Jeff W. Mowery.

David graduated from Piqua Central High School. He attended Crossroads Church of God Mt. Assembly. He loved to play cards, fish and shuffleboard. After retirement, David and Becky enjoyed traveling to Florida for 16 years. Most of all, David loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren.

He retired from Hartzell Propeller, Piqua, OH, after 46 years of service as a blade grinder and Foreman. He was instrumental in making the propellers for the Voyager aircraft that made the epic flight around the globe and set a world record in flight. He also helped make the propellers for the Goodyear Blimp.

A celebration of David's life will be held Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Crossroads Church of God Mt. Assembly, Piqua, OH, with the Rev. Jerry Wilson and Pastor Lincoln Robinson co-officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua. Family will receive friends Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua.
