James Montgomery

TROY — James Lee Montgomery, 93, 93, of Troy, died January 13, 2014, at Koester Pavilion, Troy. He was born in Toledo, on Sept. 10, 1920, to the late Coy Lee and Minnie (Shassburger) Montgomery. Jim is survived by his wife of 37 years, June Lombardo.

Jim is also survived by four children and their spouses, Jerri and John Ostergren, Smithfield, N.C., James L. II and Jody Montgomery, Tarpon Springs, Fla., Jody Liddy, Troy, and John L. and Paula Montgomery, Troy; step children, Catherine Humphries, Mt. Orab, Susan Lombardo, Pleasant Hill and Anthony Lombardo, Fayetteville, N.C.; 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Marlyss Montgomery, and daughter, Janis Roberta Montgomery.

James attended Miami University, Bradley University and Michigan State University School of Forestry. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during both World War II and the Korean War as a pilot. Jim graduated from Pensacola Naval Flight School. He retired as a Full Commander. He was the former owner of Montgomery Tree Surgery and was a member of the Franklin Lodge 14 A & M Masonic Lodge, Troy and the American Legion Post 43, Troy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, with full military honors presented by The Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
