PIQUA - The Rev. James R. Weaver, 73, of Piqua, died at 10:09 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy.
He was born March 13, 1939, in Cincinnati, to the late Joseph and Clestine (Rehmert) Weaver. He married Judy Rich on May 7, 1961, in Piqua; she survives.
Other survivors include a son, James II (Jennifer) Weaver of Covington; a daughter, Joy (Christopher) Hobbs of Piqua; two grandchildren, Ashley and Andrew Hobbs; a sister, Joanne (Donald) Motter of Piqua; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Weaver of Celina.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward G. Weaver.
Jim was a 1958 graduate of Piqua Central High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a 52-year member of Spring Creek Baptist Church, where he served as head deacon and associate pastor, having become a licensed minister in 1963 and was ordained to the ministry in 2011. He also served on the advisory committee for electronics at the Upper Valley Career Center.
Mr. Weaver retired from the Miami County Auditor's Office after a 21-year career as the Weights and Measures Inspector. He served the city of Piqua as a commissioner from 1987-1995. Jim also worked at the former Maier's IGA of Covington, Kraft Foods, Piqua Engineering, and at the Upper Valley Career Center as an electrical instructor in Adult Education. He also was the owner and operator of J&J CB Service for 25 years.
A funeral service to honor his life will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Covington, where full military honors will be conducted by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
