BRADFORD - Joan Schellenbarg, 82, of Bradford, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at home.
She was born Sept. 7, 1930, in Blanchester, to the late Louis and Frieda Ruscher. Joan was a graduate of Blanchester High School, Class of 1948. She worked at Evenflo in Piqua for many years, was a member of Bradford United Methodist Church, a past 4-H adviser, a past softball coach, and was a former Lion's Club Citizen of the Year. Her family and friends had a Darke County Relay for Life Team in honor of her named Joan's Kids and she was famous for her chicken noodles, shredded chicken and baked pies. Her grandchildren were the loves of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ralph Ruscher and Richard Ruscher; sister, Jeanne Ruscher; son-in-law, Tom Brandon; and daughter-in-law, Jill Schellenbarg.
Joan is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Harold Schellenbarg; one son, Harold Schellenbarg Jr. of Ormond Beach, Fla.; five daughters, Rita Brandon of Versailles, Debbie and her husband, Dave Richard, Cindy and her husband, Davy Gantt, Trudy Schellenbarg, and Tammi and her husband, David Abney, all of Bradford; 12 grandchildren, Abby Schellenbarg of Florida, Amy and her husband, Joe Williamson of Florida, Adam and his wife, Crystal Schellenbarg of Nevada, Angela Schellenbarg of Florida, Josh Brandon of Maryland, Jeff Brandon and his friend, Kristin of West Chester, Matt Richard and his friend, Alisha of Anna, Missy and her husband, Seth Ankrom of Portsmouth, Brad Gantt and his fiancée, Bree of Bradford, Tiffany Gantt and her fiancé, Matt of Bradford, Crystal and her husband, Dusty Yingst of Bradford, and Kristopher and his wife, Chelsea Abney of California; three step grandchildren, Shawn and his wife, Tara Brandon of West Milton, Mindy Brandon of Dayton and Sarah and her husband, Greg Adkins of Tipp City; six great-grandchildren and one on the way; eight step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Miller of Florida and Mickey Clift of Cincinnati; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Bradford, with Pastor Lance Elliot officiating. Interment Harris Creek Cemetery, Bradford.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County.
