Josephine "Jo" Cianciolo

SIDNEY — Josephine 'Jo' Cianciolo, 91, of Sidney, went home to the Lord on April 16, 2014. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Jo was born Jan. 4, 1923, in Lima, to the late Salvatore and Vincenza Lamantia. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 35 years, August "Bud" Cianciolo; brothers Vince Lamantia, Richard Lamantia and Fr. Robert Lamantia; sister, Marie Duval; her daughter-in-law, Christine Cianciolo; and her great-grandson, Angelo Cianciolo. She was the last surviving member of the Henry and Joseph Cianciolo Family. Jo is survived by her children, Rose (Jim) Kyle of Troy, JoAnn (Ralph) Cromes of Sidney, Henry (Kandy) Cianciolo of Troy, Mary (Bruce) Pitts of Troy, August "Bob" (Cyndi) Cianciolo of Piqua, Elizabeth (Mark) Rasch of Bellbrook, Jeanne (Chris) McDonagh of Sidney and John (Laura) Cianciolo, also of Sidney; sisters, Helen Gulker of Troy, Rose (Dave) Sprague of Dayton and Ginny Raymond of Lima. Also surviving their Grandma (Nona) are 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, who loved her dearly.

Jo worked for Westinghouse in Lima as a young woman and later in life at Wilson Memorial Hospital Obstetrics Department where for 30 years she welcomed many new babies into the world. She also enjoyed her catering work at the Spot Restaurant. Jo was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney, Amos Memorial Library and the Senior Center. She volunteered with the Altar Rosary Sodality and local blood bank. She was also involved in Twinning Parishes, sewing dresses for third world children. It was her privilege to prepare linens weekly for Holy Angels Church, she also served as a Eucharistic Minister, and she donated many pies and cakes to parish picnics over the years. Jo shared great joy and love with her family by cooking and providing Italian cuisine for Sunday dinners and the Wednesday "Lunch Bunch" for most of her life. Her other joys in life were playing euchre at the Senior Center, meeting with her girlfriends at bridge club for more than 60 years and playing volleyball and tennis with her children. She enjoyed traveling and visited Italy twice, took many Elderhostel trips and went on several cruises with family. Jo was an avid reader and loved the Cincinnati Reds.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney, with the Rev. Daniel Hess and the Rev. James O'Connor officating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney, from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday, April 23. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Angels Catholic Church, Holy Angels School and Dorothy Love Senior Independence Hospice who provided comfort and care during her last days.
