CROTON — Phyllis Mae Layman, 85, of Croton, longtime resident of Bradford, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at her daughter's home in Croton. She was born June 10, 1928, in Shelby County, to the late Harry and Bonnie Muriel (Fry) Shawler.
She retired from Sunshade (Hobart) where she worked for more than 23 years and was a member of Covington Eagles, Aerie 3998.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil Layman in 2002; son, Dale Layman in 2005; daughter, Diantha Crick in 2010; five brothers, Junior, Ora, George, Roger, and Carl Shawler; and two sisters, Lois Jean Chambers and Helen Earick.
Phyllis is survived by three sons, Daniel (Carolyn) Layman of Muncie, Ind., Harry Layman of Desha, Ark., and Gerald (Jeannie) Layman of Inwood, W.Va.; three daughters, Susan (Ron) Colbert of Houston, Margie Layman of Croton and Grace (George) Arnett of Greenville; son-in-law, Ron Crick of Cave City, Ark.; daughter-in-law, Nancy Layman of Piqua; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Wanda) Shawler of Piqua; sister, Donna Maxon of Troy; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Bridges-Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Covington with the Rev. Robert Akins officiating. Interment Miami Memorial Park Cemetery, Covington.
