SNELVILLE, Ga. — Richard "Rick" C. Christy of Snellville, Ga., passed away Monday, Sept. 3, 2018.

Rick was born on June 19, 1961, in Piqua, Ohio.

Rick attended St. Boniface School and graduated from Lehman Catholic High School in 1979.

He married his beautiful wife and high school sweetheart at St. Boniface Catholic Church on June 12, 1981.

He enlisted into the United States Air Force in 1985, was stationed at George AFB, California and maintained F-4 Phantom jets. He was deployed to the Persian Gulf in support of Desert Storm and after his return made the family decision to leave the USAF for a career with Delta Airlines in Atlanta. Rick served in multiple positions at Delta over his 26+ years and made an impact in each.

He was an active member of St. Oliver's Plunkett Catholic Church in Snellville. During his time in Georgia, he coached his two sons in multiple sports and could be heard from the sidelines and stands cheering on their teams intensely. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan along with the Cincinnati Reds, US Air Force Academy Falcons and Bluffton Beavers where his sons played football and graduated. He will be remembered and missed for his impact as a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, friend and coach.

Rick is preceded in death by his mother, Anna Marie Christy (Piqua); sister, Theresa Christy (Piqua); father- in-law John Mader (Piqua); brothers-in-law, Wade Bengston (Los Banos, CA) and John Perkins (Piqua).

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Christy (Snellville, GA) ; father Harry Christy (Piqua); sons, Ryan Christy (Tulsa, OK); Captain Sean Christy (USAF) and wife Breanna; grandsons, Owen, Bryce and Austin Christy (all of Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, Alaska) and Brett Kersh (Atlanta); brothers Thomas Christy and wife Patti (Lebanon, OH), Jerry Christy and his wife Kathy (Piqua, OH), John Christy and his wife Chris (Buckeye, AZ.), Donald Christy (Santa Fe, NM); sisters, Susan Miracle (Vandalia, OH), Kathy Bengston (Los Banos, CA; mother in-law Patricia Mader (Piqua); brother in-law Doug Mader (Troy, OH); sister in-law Diana Perkins (Piqua); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services took place on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Wages & Sons Gwinnett Chapel in Lawrenceville, GA. Services were conducted by Deacon Raphial Cincorn from St. Oliver's Plunkett Catholic Church. Burial services were held on Monday, Sept. 10 at the Georgia National Veteran Cemetery in Canton, GA.

The family requests donations or contributions to be forwarded to, which is a nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to spouses and children of America's fallen and disabled service members.
