PIQUA — Sharon Elaine Purcell Treon Barhorst, 70 of Piqua, passed away on April 25, 2017, at 8:59 a.m. under the care of Miami County Inpatient Hospice. Sharon was born Oct. 30, 1946, in Piqua, to the late Lawrence Edward Purcell Jr. and Norma Hope (Foust) Purcell. She married Theodore L. Barhorst on June 1, 1979, and he survives.
She is also survived by her two daughters, Tracy Anne Treon (Donn) Andersen of Dover Plains, N.Y., and Stephanie Treon Grove of Piqua; three step-children, Sherry Diane Barhorst (Heath) Smith of Houston, Eric Christopher Barhorst of Columbus, Chad Anthony Barhorst of Piqua; her son-in-law Derrick Sean Grove of Piqua; and nine grandchildren, Donn Purcell Andersen, Abigail Victoria Andersen, Elaini Sean Grove, Riley Madison Grove, Bradley Alan (Leah) Smith, Cody Isaac Smith, Chase Anthony Smith, Callie Eileen Barhorst, Courtney Frances Barhorst; and two great-grandchildren, Peyton Bradley Smith and Bryce Carter Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Patrick Allen Purcell.
Sharon was a 1964 graduate of Piqua Central High School and worked for many years with American Nursing Care. She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, where she served as a Deacon, on the Altar Guild, and volunteered with various committees that assisted with the needs of the church.
Sharon enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as her routine meals with her long-time friends: the Golden Girls, the Bank Girls, and the Altar Guild Girls. She also enjoyed Piqua history, genealogy, and crafts of many kinds.
A celebration of her life will be from 3-7 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017, at the Hartzell Propeller Ostrich Farm, 5255 W. State Route 185, Piqua, OH 45356. Private interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are being handled through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.
