PIQUA — William J. Rouse, 84, of Piqua, passed away at 4:35 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018, at Koester Pavilion. He was born May 12, 1934, in Owensboro, Kentucky. He married Marlene Y. Jenkins April 18, 1954; she preceded him in death June 30, 1993. He then married Keytha A. (Carroll) Wirrig Sept. 26, 1998, and she survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Richard J. (Roberta) Rouse of Piqua, William K. (Sandra) Rouse of Destin, Florida; two daughters, Sheree (Gale) Kaufman of Columbus, Lisa (Jeff) Dawson of Piqua; two stepchildren, Scott (Melissa) Wirrig of Land O Lakes, Florida, Wayne (Wanda) Wirrig of Piqua; 10 grandchildren, Tish (Michael) Clarey, Kevin (Kristen) Rouse, Lindsay Rouse, Kyle Rouse, Rachael (Brandon) Martin, Kurt (Tessa) Rouse, Abby (Brad) Erwin, Matt (Katlin) Rouse, Cameron Wirrig, Jack Wirrig; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffrey Dawson Jr.

Mr. Rouse was a 1952 graduate of Piqua Central High School and was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service many years, having retired in 1989. Following retirement, he worked at Gerlach the Florist flower shop. He served his country as a United States Navy veteran.

He was a member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of the Elks Lodge, having served as its Exulted Ruler, the American Legion Post #184, and a former member of the Piqua Church of the Brethren.

He enjoyed playing golf, cards, walking his dog and loved his family. He will be remembered for his ornery sense of humor and genuine friendship to so many customers and friends.

A service to honor his life will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Butt officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, where full military honors provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
