TROY - Ernest L. Vagedes, 70, of Troy, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at the Hospice of Dayton. He was born Aug. 23, 1942, in Piqua, to the late Leonard J. Vagedes and Rita M. (Steinke) Vagedes.
He is survived by his wife, Kay (McKale) Vagedes; his daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Alan Decker of Troy and Michele and Todd Oaks of Troy; son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Paige Vagedes of Dayton; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Jean Bollinger of Vandalia and Ann M. and Martin Schulz of Florida; sister-in-law, Constance McKale of Kettering; brothers-in-law, James McKale of Piqua and Michael McKale of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Angela Umstead, Morgan and Ally Decker, Carly and Julian Vagedes, Luke and Connor Oaks. He will also be missed by many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Kirk Bollinger and sister-in-law, Patricia McKale.
Ernie graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati, where he was a distinguished military student and belonged to Alpha Sigma Nu fraternity. He received his MBA from Antioch College. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Troy and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. Ernie was employed as a CPA having retired in 2004.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Troy, with the Rev. Fr. James Duell officiating. Military honors will follow mass at the church by the Veterans Memorial Honor guard. Interment will be held at a later date in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, with prayer service following. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, St. Patrick Catholic Church or Special Olympics.
