PIQUA - Richard D. Schwartz Sr., 79, of Piqua, died at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2013, at his residence. He was born Aug. 18, 1933, in Brookville to the late Herbert and Anna (Curtain) Schwartz. He married Marilyn F. Clark on Jan. 14, 1956, in Gordon; and she survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Wendy R. (Denzil Sears) Minnich of Piqua; three sons, Richard D. (Barbara) Schwartz Jr., of Piqua, Keith A. (Marilyn) Schwartz of Nokomis, Fla., Kelly J. (Karen) Schwartz of Derby, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Jean) Schwartz Sr., of Venice, Fla.; and three sisters, Wilda Ann Snyder of Phillipsburg, Patricia (George) Tucker of Brookville and Mary Lou Zellers of Centerville.
Mr. Schwartz retired in 1985 as a railroad conductor for the B & O Railroad following 31 years of service. He was a United States Navy veteran having served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Piqua Christian Church, the V.F.W. Post 4874, American Legion Post 184, a life member of the AMVETS, and a Charter member of the Korean War Veterans of Western Ohio. He enjoyed fishing, baseball having played at the semi-pro level and he was a real people person.
A service to honor his life will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with the Rev. Travis Mowell officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be from 12:30-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
