David Satterley Obituary

David W. Satterley, 81 of Boulder, passed away March 14, 2015. He was born in Ishpeming, Michigan to Emily and Raymond Satterley, Sept. 16, 1933. A Memorial service will be held Sat., March 21 at 1:30 pm at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 3485 Stanford Court, Boulder. A reception will follow at the church. Upon graduation from Ishpeming High School in 1951, he was appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. and sang in the West Point Choir. Graduating from the University of Michigan in 1955, he was a proud member of the Michigan Men's Glee Club which toured Europe and the U.S. with an appearance on television's Ed Sullivan Show. While serving in the U.S. Army, from 1956-58, he was a military courier for S.H.A.P.E. (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe) stationed outside of Paris, France. In 1959, Dave graduated from the University of Chicago with an MBA degree. During his first job at the 1st Wis. Nat'l Bank in Milwaukee, Wis., he met his wife, "Fritz" (Frieda) Regenberg; they were married in Madison, Wis. on July 14, 1962. They moved to Racine, Wis. where Dave was employed as a computer specialist at American Motors Corp. in Kenosha, Wis. He then became an Assistant Registrar at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. 1969 brought them to Boulder, CO where he was employed with American College Testing (ACT). His next job was with the state Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE). Following that, he was then employed as the computer director for the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO. He was a life member of the Free Masons of Michigan and the U of M Alumni Association. Dave was an avid small and large game hunter and fly fisherman. He was a devoted University of Michigan, University of Colorado and University of Wisconsin football fan in addition to his beloved Green Bay Packers and had an incredible memory about coaches, players and games, past and present. Dave was a voracious reader of the classics, philosophy, politics and government. For the past 15 years, he and "Fritz" would spend 4 summer months at their family cottage on Lake Michigamme in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, boating, fishing and hunting and they were very much part of the community including socializing with their many U.P. friends. Dave was preceded in death by his stillborn daughter Annalyse Emily Satterley in 1964. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, "Fritz" in Boulder and son, Philip of Denver, Colorado. Dave will be remembered for his intelligence, vast interests and friendly manner. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dave's memory to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 3485 Stanford Ct, Boulder, CO 80305; Presbytery Point Camp, HC-1, Box 2030, Michigamme, MI 49861; or the charity of choice.
