Anna passed away in her home in Boulder on November 4. She was born Anna Marylind Bell in Garden City, Long Island, NY to Marylind (Bowman) and James Bell. She attended Adelphi College, graduating magna cum laude
in June 1946. She received her master's degree from Syracuse University in August 1949 and was a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Wisconsin
, Madison, in contemporary American literature. She met her future husband while at Madison. Anna and George F. Clements were married at the Garden City Community Church on June 18, 1952. They moved their young family to Boulder in August of 1962. Anna raised her family, volunteered as a tutor in Boulder's schools, contributed to her favorite charities, and enjoyed her circle of friends. After her children left home, she did extensive research on the history of the Scots Highlanders and their New World diaspora, and wrote several historical novels. Anna is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, George; daughter Bell Julian Clement of Washington, D.C.; son Mark (Connie) of Colorado Springs; son Eric (Barbara) of Cape Girardeau, MO; son Owen (Linda) of Mill Valley, CA; and grandchildren, Alicia and James Anderson, Marilynn Clements, and Timothy Clements. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and brother, James Bell, Jr., and her grandson Sgt. Julian Clement Chase, USMC. Arrangements are pending for a memorial service next May.
