Anne Crouse

Carolyn 'Anne' Crouse of Broomfield CO, 82 years of age, beloved wife, mother and friend, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, November 29, 2013. She was born Carolyn Anne Grettum on August 6, 1931 in Kalamazoo Michigan to parents Ivan and Caroline Grettum. Known as Anne, she grew up in Michigan and came to Colorado to attend the University of Colorado where she graduated with a BA in literature. While attending CU, she met her husband Peter on a blind date. They were married August 15, 1953 in Richland Michigan. Anne and Peter moved to Broomfield in 1957 to raise their family. She was a homemaker, worked for the Chamber of Commerce and was a columnist for both the Star Builder and the Broomfield Enterprise. Her resume contains an extensive list of positions including: a founding member of Broomfield FISH and the Broomfield Community Foundation; a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission; a board member for Broomfield Senior Services and a member of the Broomfield Economic Development Council and the Broomfield Cemetery Committee. She served one term as a Broomfield City Council Member, the only council member ever elected by write-in ballot. She earned the NAWBO Woman of the West award in 1996, and the 2003 Gene Frank Heart of Broomfield Award. In August 2013 Anne Crouse Park in Broomfield was dedicated to honor her many contributions. Anne was very dedicated to family, friends, and her church community. She was a founder of the United Church of Christ in Broomfield and spent numerous hours in service to the Church. Anne had other talents as a musician, writer and artist. She loved gathering with her friends for Friday morning coffee. Professional and recreational memberships included PEO, Rotary Club, Broomfield Jammers, Book Club and more. Anne was predeceased by her parents, brother John Grettum and grandson Andrew Crouse. Survivors include Peter, her husband of 60 years, children Wendy McAllister (Scott), John Crouse, Susan Crouse, Peter Crouse (Carolyn), nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. A memorial service was held at the United Church of Broomfield on Tuesday, December 3, 2013.
