Dorothy Eckert

Dorothy 'Dottie' Louise Eckert, 79, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Frasier Meadows in Boulder, Colorado after an extended illness. Dottie was born August 26, 1933 in Hillsboro, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Ina M. and Hugh C. Hill. She graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1951 and Davis & Elkins College in 1954 as a Registered Nurse. She was a compassionate and dedicated nurse practicing one year at the National Institute of Health in Washington DC, thirteen years at Sacred Heart Hospital in Lamar, Colorado, and finally, twenty-three years at Boulder Medical Center in Boulder, Colorado. Dottie retired from nursing in 1992 but continued to mentor young nurses and nursing assistants throughout her recent hospital stays. On June 25, 1955 Dottie married the love of her life, Donald 'Don' L. Eckert, in Elkins, West Virginia. They moved to Lamar, Colorado where they started their young family before moving to Boulder, Colorado in 1967. In addition to her nursing career and raising her children, Dottie was active in a number of community service organizations including the American Legion Auxiliary (holding several offices including President), VFW Auxiliary, and Women of the Moose. Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, Ina and Hugh Hill in 2000 and 2002; sister Wanda Jean (date known), and daughter, Victoria Lynn in 1956. Her memories will be cherished by her husband Don of Boulder, CO; her daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Charles ('Sandy and Chuck') Simmons of Westminster, CO; her daughter and son-in-law Pamela 'Pam' Eckert and Timothy 'Tim' Stevens of Boulder, CO; her son Bradley 'Brad' Eckert of Buena Vista, CO; and her grandchildren Brandon Eckert, Jonathan and Carley Simmons. A funeral service will be held at Darrell Howe Mortuary, 1701 South Boulder Rd, Lafayette, CO at 3:30pm on Thursday, June 6, 2013. Visitation will be held immediately prior to the service from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. A private burial will be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery at a date to be determined later.
