Howard Teague

BEULAH WYOMING - Howard S. Teague, 91, formerly of Wooster OH and Louisville CO, passed away Saturday, November 16 at his home on Sand Creek near Beulah WY. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date. Howard was born January 16, 1922 on the Teague family farm in Sugar Creek Township IN, and grew up on a small farm in the Arpan area of western South Dakota. He was the son of Grant and Versa (Whitlock) Teague, and married Marlyn Joy Spencer on Dec 12, 1943. They were married for over 67 years until Marlyn's death from Alzheimer's disease. Howard later married Dorothy Clarkson of Beulah, WY November 19, 2011. He was a graduate of Belle Fourche High School in 1940 and enlisted in the Army Air Corp at the beginning of WWII. He was trained as a bombardier on a B-24 and joined the 576th Squadron, 392 Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force at Wendling Air Base in England. During 16 months of deployment he flew 29 combat missions and was awarded 6 Battle Stars, the Air Medal 4 times and the Distinguished Flying Cross 3 times. At the conclusion of WWII he enrolled at the University of Nebraska where he earned his BS and MS degrees, and later attended the University of Minnesota where he earned his PhD in Animal Science. Howard moved his family to Wooster in 1952 to take a position as an Ohio State University Professor at the Ohio Agricultural Research Center. He later worked for the USDA in Hastings NE and Washington DC. He retired in 1990 and moved to Louisville CO, and later to Beulah WY. During his life Howard was very active in his community. He was a member and later President of the Wooster Kiwanis Club and the Coal Creek Rotary Club. He also organized several People to People tours to Europe, was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, and was instrumental in establishing the Boulder County chapter of Habitat for Humanity where he participated in the construction of more than 42 homes. He was also an avid fly fisherman, woodworker, and a certified Master Gardener. Surviving are his wife Dorothy Clarkson Teague of Beulah WY, his sons Douglas (Jan) of Sheridan WY, Richard (Charee) of Richmond VA, Edward (Sue) of Redmond WA, and Allen (Colleen) of Orrville OH, his sister Irene Vrettos of Durham NH, as well as 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Scott (Mary) Clarkson of Sheridan WY, Karen Clarkson (Doug Anderson) of Broomfield CO, Cathy (Gerry) Bennett of Spearfish SD, and Jeb (Maureen) Clarkson of Belle Fourche SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Marlyn, and his brother Roger.
