Born in Michigan City, Indiana, to Catherine and Joseph Phalen, Kathleen (Bobbe) received her bachelor's degree in Business from St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana. Bobbe was the Chief of Staff to the Dean of Engineering at the University of Notre Dame
. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, George Valenta, on November 22, 1951. She spent the next chapter of her life raising their eight children who along with George were the center of her world. She also took on the role of caregiver for their parents. As she cherished her children, so too was her dedication to the rights of the unborn. She tirelessly campaigned for the sanctity of life. The family lived in homes from New York to Colorado over the course of their 58 years of marriage. On settling in Colorado, Bobbe worked at St. Martin DePorres Parish in Boulder and retired during the late '90's. She had a great wit and sense of humor and everywhere she went she made lifelong friends! She was the ultimate shopper and her talent was unparalleled. She was an expert bridge player, voracious reader and was very engaged and informed about world affairs, particularly politics. She was an author and published her first book at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George and her grandson, Christopher Valenta. She is survived by eight children, Catherine (Timothy) Babington, Michael, Joseph, Elizabeth (David) White, Frances (Francis) Dwyer, Mary Pat (Kurt) Munding, Eileen and Maureen, 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation and rosary will begin at 9:30 AM on Thursday, December 19, followed by the funeral mass at 11:00 at Immaculate Conception Church in Lafayette.
