Marguerite (Maggie) Manzanares of Lafayette, Colorado passed away on January 13, 2013 at the Legacy Assisted Living Home in Lafayette, Colorado. She was 91. Maggie was born on April 15, 1921 in Erie, Colorado to Victoria and Antonio Duarte. She was the youngest of three children. She attended Lafayette High School. Maggie married David J. Manzanares on February 20, 1938. They had five children David A., Theodore (Ted), Charles (Johnny), Pearl and Ronald (Nares). She was a devoted wife and mother throughout her life. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, gardening, playing Bingo, and spending time with her family. She was a Gold Star Mother and a member of the VFW
Post 1771. She was also a long time parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Lafayette, Colorado. Maggie “Gram” was a very strong independent woman who led a fruitful life. Her character, love, and presence will be greatly missed. She is survived by a son, Theodore (Carolyn) Manzanares, a daughter, Pearl (Ron) Alexander, two daughter-in-laws, Elaine (David A.) Manzanares, Jean (Nares) Manzanares, ten grandchildren, Randy (Angela) Manzanares, Jeffrey Manzanares, Sherri (Phil) DiTirro, Marc Manzanares, Reni (Joe) Jenkins, Todd Alexander, Kathy (Jason) Schade, J.J. Abbey, John Schaffer, and Jenise (Don) Preston. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren. Maggie was preceded in death by her husband David J. Manzanares, her sons David A., Johnny, and Nares, as well as her sisters, Mary (Smarty) Martinez and Pearl Lopez. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 17th at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Lafayette. Entombment will be in Coal Creek Memorial Cemetery, with a reception to follow back at the church.
