Max Bailey

Bailey, Max LeRoy, 87, of Longmont, died January 8, 2014 at his residence. Max was born June 24, 1926 in Mankato, Kansas, the only child to Ivan and Dorothy (Sawyer) Bailey. After completing high school he would enlist with the Army Air Corp. After his honorable discharge, Max went on to own and run three Standard gas stations in Boulder. One on 9th and Pearl, 28th and Pine, and Folsom and Valmont. Max also owned and ran Bailey Wrecker Service, and also had a small machine shop in Boulder for a short time. Max also drove a truck for Meadow Gold dairy, was a bus supervisor for RTD, and finally retired from NAPA auto parts in Berthoud. Max enjoyed drag racing and working on cars, especially his 1953 Ford truck that he took to numerous car shows. Max is survived by his Mother, Dorothy who turned 106 this month, three children, Michael Bailey of Niwot, Colorado; Richard Bailey of Houston, Texas; and Janet Strong of Lafayette, Colorado. He has eight grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Father Ivan. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday January 24, 2014 at the Elks Lodge #566 in Boulder, Colorado.
