Nancy Lee Davis, born August 7, 1949, in Endicott, New York passed away peacefully on September 23, 2013. She graduated from Vestal Senior High School followed by Centenary College for Women in New Jersey. Although she transferred and graduated from Colorado State University, she was an avid Colorado Buffaloes football fan. She married Jim Helmer August 4, 1979, and together they had a daughter, Narelle, and son, Barrett. Nancy taught Consumer and Family Studies for 26 years at Broomfield Junior & Senior High Schools, Casey Middle School, Boulder High School and retired from Niwot High School after 14 years of service. She was named "Teacher of the Year" and was Commencement Speaker at Niwot High School in 1998, and received many other accolades in recognition of her passion for teaching. She loved her profession and her students meant the world to her even in her retirement. A long-time resident of Colorado, she enjoyed local hobbies including watching the Rockies & Broncos, her garden, cooking, her family, and her friends and neighbors. Upon retirement, she traveled to Southeast Asia, Chile, Argentina, the Caribbean and spent time along the Carolina shores. Nancy is survived by her husband, Jim Helmer of Boulder; son, Barrett Helmer of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Narelle Woods and son-in-law, Dr. Jonathan Woods of Wilmington, North Carolina; her sisters, Diane Rafferty of Phoenix, Arizona and Karen Poole of Wagener, South Carolina. She is also survived by her mother, Shirley Davis Bunn of Longmont, 3 brothers-in-law, one nephew, seven nieces and countless cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Davis and a nephew. Nancy will be in the hearts of her family and many friends and in the kitchens of all the students whom she loved and inspired.
