Paul Leinweber

Paul Leinweber, a native of Longmont and long-time resident of Boulder, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013. He was 89. Paul, who was a "leap year" baby, was born at home on Feb. 29, 1924. He was the last surviving child of Henry and Matilda Leinweber, and was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters. Paul lost his wife and soul mate, Charlotte, in Feb., 2011. He is survived by their daughters Judith Leinweber and Janet Mulstay (James), as well as an "adopted" daughter, Robin Bovard. He is also survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews, as well as other extended family. Paul graduated from the "Old" Longmont High School in 1942, while working full-time on his parents' farm. Following graduation, Paul worked as a Farmer until enlisting in the Army in 1944 during WW II. He served as a Medic until his Honorable Discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1946. Paul began his career with Public Service Co. in 1947, where he worked until he retired as a Supervisor, in 1986. Paul and Charlotte spent 66 years together as friends, in addition to spouses. They were wonderful parents, always putting the needs of their daughters ahead of their own. Like Charlotte, Paul lived his strong Catholic Faith each day of his life. He never met a stranger and will be missed by many! Paul loved baseball, especially the Yankees; The Broncos; Fly fishing; Animals, and working in his garden/yard. He also loved his extended family, his neighbors, who watched over him for decades. Further, he appreciated the assistance of his HomeWatch CareGivers who allowed him extended years of continued independent living. Paul lost the sight in one of his eyes as a teenager, following an accident. He suffered from Macular Degeneration for over 25 years in his other eye and was legally blind. Despite these and other health challenges, he maintained his independence, living at his residence until the time of his death. A Mass will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 2312 14th St., at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 10, 2013, with a reception immediately following at the Church. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Park, with arrangements being handled by Crist Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Guiding Eyes for the Blind, 611 Granite Springs Road, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598 or the Macular Degeneration Foundation, Inc., PO Box 531313, Henderson, NV 89053.
