Colonel Youa Pao Xiong, a lifelong leader and servant to his Hmong community and family has passed away in his home on March 26, 2014. Youa Pao Xiong was born on July 16th, 1930 in Ham Kher, Laos. He dedicated his life to democratic ideals and education. He served as Colonel 5 Star in the secret war in Laos for the CIA US Army Special Forces. Colonel Xiong served with distinction and was awarded a Purple Heart
plus many honors for his service to the United States and his Hmong community. Following the end of the war, Colonel Xiong and family spent 4 years in the Ban Vinai refugee camp in Thailand before his family immigrated to the US sponsored by Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church, Boulder, CO. Colonel Xiong emphasized respect, education, and hard work to all that he knew. He will be remembered for his great capacity to love and extreme generosity to anyone in need. His life will be celebrated by all that he touched. His memory will live forever through his wives, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His passing will be mourned with a traditional Hmong service April 18-21. Services will be at Horton & McConaty, 9998 Grant St, Thornton, CO. The procession to Green Mountain Cemetery will begin at 10am Monday, April 21.
