Arik Brissenden Obituary
Arik Brissenden died January 6 at the age of 89 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born April 27, 1926 in New York City and raised in Dobbs Ferry, NY. A graduate of Oakwood School, Columbia College, and Columbia Medical School, he served as a Psychiatrist in the Army in Korea during the Korean War. After the war he worked at the University of Cincinnati where he met and married Sally Arthur of Wollaston, MA and had three children, Mark, Kira, and Noel. In 1963 the family moved to Long Island where Dr. Brissenden was Head of Psychiatry at Brooklyn Hospital and at Stony Brook University. He also had a private practice where he could follow his passion of helping others. Dr. Brissenden retired to Boulder, CO in 1993 and lived the last 12 years of his life at Frasier Meadows Retirement Community. In his free time and retirement he enjoyed hiking with his beloved dog Sam, cheering on the Rockies and the Buffs, playing the recorder and piano, and playing alligator with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Don and his twin brother Hoke, and is survived by his wife Sally, his three children and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Fri. Jan. 15, 2pm, at Frasier Meadows, 350 Ponca Place, Boulder. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Fraiser Meadows.
