Charles Mckay Allred, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed away October 5, 2012 in Broomfield, Colorado. Mckay was born in Star Valley, Wyoming on April 12, 1915 to Theras Orson Allred and Florence Rheuamah Porter, the 3rd of 13 children. He grew up in Logan, Grantsville, and Provo, Utah. Mckay graduated from Brigham Young University in 1938 with a Degree in Physics. He served as a missionary in the East Central States Mission from 1940 - 1942. As World War II commenced, he served his country by joining scientists at Massachusetts Institute of Technology to develop radar which helped win the war. After the war, he continued graduate work at BYU where he met Velma Grace Horner, his future wife. In 1948, he joined the National Bureau of Standards as a Microwave Engineer in Arlington, Virginia. In 1950 he and Velma were married in the L.D.S. Temple in Manti, Utah. He relocated with the Bureau to Boulder, Colorado until he retired in 1986. He built a home in East Boulder and after 50 years moved to Broomfield, Colorado. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served in many callings and provided many hours of service. His interest in music included a dance band, piano, voice, and composition. He loved gardening. He was always positive, open, honest, and never complained. Preceded in death by his parents, 8 siblings and his daughter, Janene, he is survived by his wife, Velma; six children Daryl (Sylvia), Kevin (Debbie), Brent (Terri), Layne (Kristin), Kaylyn (John) Christensen, Valene (Darin) Durfey; 4 sisters, Elaine Hawkins, Joye Cluff, Noreen Hess and Carol Bean; 26 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. A viewing for family and friends will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at the L.D.S. Church followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. (for location, call 720-383-4404) Interment will be at Green Mountain Cemetery, 290 20th St., Boulder, CO.
