James Schreiter Obituary
James William Schreiter, 88, of Lafayette passed away March 12, 2013 in Louisville. He was born on February 15, 1925 in Boulder, Colorado to Curt and Grace (Allen) Schreiter. Curt Schreiter passed away Nov 17, 1933 when Jim was 8 years old, his two brothers Lin and Otto left the farm when Jim was sixteen leaving him to tend the farm and take care of his mother. Jim graduated from Louisville High School in 1943, and continued on the farm until he leased it out when he joined the US Navy on June 15, 1944. He was a machinist mate first class on a repair ship until he was honorably discharged on March 31, 1946. Jim returned home and took the farm back and worked it and several winter jobs to support him and his mother. Jim met Margaret Alice Bishop and they were married on July 22, 1953. He started working for the Lafayette Post Office in 1957 as a mail carrier and later as a clerk. Jim continued to support his mother until her passing on August 29, 1974. He retired in 1990 after 33 years of service as head clerk and relief supervisor. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty nine years Margaret, his brothers Lin and Otto. Jim is survived by his daughter Arlene Carol Penner and husband Steve of Lafayette, son Dean Allen Schreiter and wife Shauna of Burlington, CO and three grandchildren Justin Lee Schreiter, Morgan Carole Penner and Sydnee Rae Schreiter; sister Toots Schreiter Venette DiLorenzo; many nieces and nephews and extended family members. Funeral service will be 1:30 PM Friday March 15, 2013 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel 326 Terry St. Longmont, CO 80501. Internment will be at Mountain View Memorial Park, Boulder.
