Sandra McCray Obituary
Sandra Broomfield McCray died on December 25, at her home in Boulder Colorado, of complications resulting from kidney failure. Born Sandra Caroline Broomfield on May 24, 1938 in Los Angeles, Sandy lived 73 breathtakingly vital years. She leaves a big hole in the hearts her family, including husband Richard McCray, daughters Julia McCray-Goldsmith and Carla McCray, and grandsons Amos and Aaron McCray-Goldsmith. Fiercely intelligent, Sandy graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, earned a Master of Teaching degree from Harvard University, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Colorado Law School. She has lived in Boulder since 1971, where she worked for the Colorado Attorney General as First Assistant, taught telecommunications law, regulated financial institutions and practiced interstate tax and telecommunications law. Retired as an attorney in 1992, Sandy received a kidney transplant 1993 and subsequently became a passionate advocate for people with chronic diseases. She developed, and for a decade managed, the online information resource Colorado HealthNet, and then devoted herself full time to mosaic art. She lived life with great intensity, hiking, traveling, and enjoying her dogs through her final days. Gifts in Sandy's memory can be made to The Sandra and Richard McCray Scholarship Fund, University of Colorado Foundation, 4740 Walnut Street, Boulder, CO 80301.
