H. Patricia Haugen Obituary
H. Patricia (Magor) Haugen died March 3, 2014. She was 86 years old. She died from complications of bladder cancer. The younger daughter of Richard H. and Erna Magor, she was born on September 16, 1927, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She graduated from Cheyenne High School in Cheyenne in 1945. She attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie, WY, for three years. She married C. Kent Smith on October 18, 1947. They lived in Laramie and Worland, Wyoming before moving to Boulder, Colorado in 1959. They had three children and divorced in 1969. In 1960 Pat began working as a secretary for the Department of Commerce, Central Radio Propagation Lab then as Manager of Aeronomy and Space Data Center. In 1971 she was administrative assistant in NOAA's Wave Propagation Laboratory. She married Duane Haugen on August 6, 1980 in Boulder. Pat retired from her civil service career in 1984 and then worked part-time as office administrator for Radiophysics Inc. a private radio astronomy research group before becoming fully retired in 1994. She was an avid hiker, skier, and cyclist, activities she shared with her husband Duane and her three children. Pat volunteered at the Safehouse in 1983. She served as part time Legislative Aide to State Representative Ruth Wright in 1985 and volunteered for the Indian Peaks Working Group (now Alliance). Pat served on the Board of Directors for the Boulder Bach Festival 1993-96 and was a volunteer for the Colorado Music Festival. She was a long time volunteer in the Boulder County Democratic Party. She was preceded in death by her sister Mary (Magor) Sinclair of Modesto, CA. in 2004. Survivors include her husband, Duane Haugen, her son, Randy Smith (Kay Christenson) of Pasadena, CA; daughter, Julie Smith, (Noah Sciaky) of Chapel Hill, NC; son, Roger Smith, (Karen Smith) of Thornton, CO; grandson, Simon Sciaky, and granddaughter, Lilah Sciaky, of Chapel Hill, NC, granddaughter Selina Smith, and grandson Nicholas Smith, of Thornton, CO. Stepson Jeff Haugen of Lakewood, CO; step-grandson Christopher Haugen of Denver, CO: step-granddaughter, Rebecca Jacobson of Westford, MA; niece Kathleen Sinclair Cannuli of San Jose, CA and nephew Richard Sinclair of Modesto, CA.
