Homer Johansen Obituary
Homer (Hoke) Carroll Johansen, 92, of Boulder passed away April 19, 2014. He was born in Columbus, Nebraska and graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in South Africa, Italy, Germany and France. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska and a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club. He met Ruthe Ann Dunn on a blind date arranged by his brother and they married September 26, 1949. When he moved his family to Boulder in 1954, he sold Skelgas to propane gas customers. From 1958 to 1968, he owned and operated Johansen Hardware in the North Broadway Shopping Center, followed by selling real estate with Bodin Realty until he retired in the early 1980s. Hoke enjoyed playing golf and spent his winters in Arizona following retirement. Hoke will be remembered for his good nature and sense of humor. He was always prepared with a joke to tell to both old and new acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Ruthe Ann (Dunn) Johansen; his parents George and Sarah; and three siblings, Carmen, George and Florence. He is survived by his sons, James (Veralyn), Daniel (Sandy) and David (Sarah); three grandchildren, Jenna, Travis and Erika; one great grandchild, Aidan; and three siblings, Doug, Marion and Ray. A memorial service is to be held at 2 pm, Saturday, May 10, 2014 in the Chapel at First Presbyterian Church of Boulder, 1820 15th Street, Boulder Colorado with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Red Cross or TRU Community Care (Hospice) of Lafayette, Colorado.
