Howard Madigan Obituary
Howard Raymond Madigan passed away peacefully on July 29th, 2014. He was 79 years old. Howie was born in Dubuque, Iowa to Raymond and Kathryn Madigan. He had 2 sisters, Mary and Lois, and a brother, Jim. Howie grew up in Dubuque and following school, entered the US Army. He was stationed in Germany and served 4 years before returning home. There he met and married his life partner and the love of his live, Mary Patricia Anglin. They had five children. He went to work for Lange Ski Company in 1963 and moved to Colorado in 1969. The company closed and Howie became an Interventionist, assisting people with drug and alcohol addictions to find recovery. He also trained others to become intervention professionals. Before his retirement in 2010 from the Harmony Foundation Recovery Center in Estes Park, it is estimated he performed 2500-3000 interventions. Howie was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous from his time in Dubuque and had 48 years of sobriety at the time of his passing. During his career he received numerous recognitions, including an award as the State of Colorado "Outstanding Provider of 1999", Psychotherapy Associates Award for "25 years of outstanding contributions in chemical dependency education, and a special feature on 9 News for people who have made a difference in the lives of many others. Howie was a proud and loving husband, father and grandfather. He leaves his wife Pat and his 5 children, Anne (Pflum), Tim, Maureen (Boselli), Marna (Pizzella) and Michael, and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and one sister. His sister, Lois, lives in Parker, Colorado. A visitation will be held at Crist Mortuary in Boulder Sunday August 3rd from 4-8 p.m. and a funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus in Boulder for family and friends on Monday August 4th at 2:00. A celebration of Howie's life will be held at the Boulder Valley Christian Church at future date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Howie's name to TruCare - Boulder County Hospice.
