Einar Berlin Obituary
Einar G. Berlin passed away on November 10, 2012 after a short illness. He was 90 years young. Einar was born on October 13, 1922 in Green Lake Tp., Minnesota to Herman and Johanna Berlin. Einar lived in Minnesota until he enlisted in the U. S. Navy. He served as a sonar operator on the USS Willoughby for 2 years in the South Pacific Ocean until his honorable discharge on April 24, 1946. He moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where he worked his way through college by sanding and finishing hardwood floors. He graduated from Union College with a BA degree in English. It was here he met Virginia M Trout. They were married on September 6, 1951 in Lincoln, Nebraska and they were together for 61 years until the time of his passing. Einar and Virginia moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1953. That summer he started Berlin Flooring, which he owned until 1991 when his son took over the business. Einar was active in the Boulder Seventh-Day Adventist Church where he was an elder, taught classes, sang in the choir, quartet and sang solos. People loved his clear tenor voice. His other interests were golf, travel, reading, family and friends. He will be remembered for his kind spirit, humble ways and his great sense of humor. Einar is survived by his wife Virginia Berlin; daughter Jan Gates (Gordon); son Steven Berlin, all of Boulder, Colorado; sister Doris Dickinson of Apocka, FL; granddaughters Charity Gates of Denver and Elizabeth Berlin of Boulder; grandsons Trevor Gates (Katie) of Lafayette and Nicholas Berlin of Denver; three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and a sister. A Celebration of his life will be held Saturday, December 1st at 2:30 PM in the Boulder Seventh-Day Adventist church, 345 Mapleton Ave, Boulder, Colorado. He will be interred at the Fort Logan National Cemetery in a private family service. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Vista Ridge Academy, 3100 Ridge View Drive, Erie, CO 80516.
