Robert Overholser Obituary
On Thursday, April 18, 2013, God called Robert M. Overholser (Bob) of Longmont to heaven. Also preceding him in death is his daughter, Patti, brother, William, parents, sister-in-law and granddaughter. He leaves his loving and faithful wife, Janice, of sixty-six years; his daughter Sharon (Ed Pacheck); son, Duane; son-in-law Rockie Bliss; brother Lyndon; and sister-in-law Doris Overholser. Other family members include five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, seven nieces and nephews and many close friends. Bob was born on January 21, 1924 in Diagonal, Iowa to Dolliver and Elizabeth Overholser. He graduated from high school at 16. Bob served his country during WWII in the Army, 4th Infantry Ivy. He served in five major campaigns and received the Purple Heart. Soon after discharge, Bob and Janice were married. Their first home was in Diagonal, IA where their three children were born. In 1959, the family moved to Boulder, where they lived for 37 years. Bob retired from the USPS after 33 years of service. In 1997, the family moved to Longmont. Bob was active in the Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Elks Club, Little League baseball, fishing and fine woodworking. He was a member of LifeBridge Church. In recent years, he served in the Honor Guard of the American Legion for memorial tributes for veterans. Proud highlights for Bob included being named the Grand Marshall in the Longmont Veteran's Day Parade, being selected for the Honor Flight trip to Washington D.C. to pay tribute to fallen veterans, and being interviewed for the Veteran's History Project archived in the Library of Congress. Bob's faith in God and love of his family and friends provided much joy and happiness in his life. He will forever be remembered as a devoted family man and friend. Memorial services will be held at Howe Mortuary on Saturday, April 27 at 10:30am with a reception following at the American Legion Post 32. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Honor Guard, American Legion Post # 32, Care of Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, CO 80501.
