Jack Euler Obituary

Life is too short, even at the age of 83... especially when you have good health and a dream. Jack suffered a tragic fall while doing what he loved; working on his boat. Three weeks later he passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. We all said our "good-byes". Jack was a proud Boulderite having grown up north of town on the ranch that his grandfather homesteaded. Robert Louis Euler raised livestock and was a three term sheriff of Boulder County. Attending Washington, Casey, Boulder High and University of Colorado, Jack became a licensed architect in 1973. He designed private homes for friends, but worked primarily for engineering firms and school districts. At the age of 18 he joined the Air National Guard serving "overseas" at San Antonio, TX. He was honorably discharged in 1951. Jack started skiing in 1945 becoming a volunteer patrolman at Arapahoe Basin in 1948. In 1956, he was appointed to the National Ski Patrol #1820. Then in 1962 he established the patrol at Breckenridge. Skiing was an important part of family life for the Euler's with both his son and daughter later becoming ski instructors. Having to support himself, he worked at building a dam at Woodland Lake for Ev. Long, and even went so far as to hitch hike to Alaska for work at Denali National Park. He surveyed the Boulder/Denver turnpike along with many mines in Summit County and uranium mines around Moab, UT. He always enjoyed the mountains, summiting 38 of Colorado's fourteeners and making technical assents of the Flat Irons and Longs Peak. Jack retired in 1994 but never slowed down. He rounded out retirement by completing the upgrade of his Boulder rental house, starting to build a cabin in Summit County (still a work in progress) and following his dream of sailing by working on finishing an ocean-going sailboat in his back yard. Jack is survived by his wife of fifty-one years (Donna Harper), son Grant (wife JoAnn) daughter Elizabeth (husband Darrell) Farr and four grandchildren Jakup, Elias, Dakota and Delaney. He was preceded in death by his half sister and Sarah, an infant grand daughter. Jack will always be remembered as a kind, mild mannered man with a dry wit and subtle knowledge. He relaxed with a puff on his pipe at which time he did his "best thinking". We miss that aroma and his quiet presence. Jack was cremated and a family gathering will be held in the mountains to celebrate his life. Memorial contributions may be offered to the Bld Valley Sail and Power Squadron, P.O. Box 270936 Louisville, CO 80027. Jack was a charter member of the local chapter. Share memories, stories, pictures, etc. at www.forevermissed.com search Jack Euler

So many fond memories of sailor, Jack and Donna--especially on 'Puffin' when 'our' captain allowed us three a smoking 'station' on the stern. We all got along so well! We always had such a good time with Jack and Donna as crew, recently on 'Elsie' as well.
Jack often was up in the wee hours driving us to the RTD bus station for a flight from D I A.
I learned a lot about Jack's life in the obituary you have written and it had such a positive feeling. THANKS!
Recently I remember our Tuesday 'cronies' lunches when Donna and I would exchange books via Jack.
The most recent and treasured memory was last Easter when I mentioned that we didn't have any plans and Donna and Jack invited us to their family dinner. What a special day! ---and I even got to climb the ladder (which I don't like too well) up into Jack's boat. I was so impressed with his work and dream.
He will be missed in all our connections with him.

What an adventurous and memorable life Jack led! He was such an integral part of our sailing group and an inspiration to all of us. He will be dearly missed...and so fondly remembered!

It is indeed a sad day for the Squadron. I only knew Jack for a very short time. My condolences to his Wife and Family. If there is any solace it is in the fact that he died doing what he loved. He will be missed.
