Adam Heller

Obituary Condolences

Adam Hybl Heller, 46, of Longmont, CO died February 8, 2014 in a skiing accident. He was born in Rye, NY March 17, 1967, and attended Rye High School and the University of Colorado Boulder for undergraduate and law school. He is survived by his beloved of eighteen years, Kelly Custer, parents Zdena Hyblova Heller and Gilbert Heller of Connecticut, sister Kathy Ama Hruby of New York, many caring friends, and a community of ski and outdoor enthusiasts. As a very young man Adam identified himself on a business card as a "skier, attorney, activist" - in that order. He spent his entire life exploring the ways in which he could be self-sufficient, independent, adventurous, and informed. From time he could walk, he was exploring Rye beach; he was always exploring. At the age of fifteen, he rode his bicycle on a solo trip from Miami Beach to New York. The following year he cycled from Washington state to California. Adam's love of skiing, bicycling, hiking and wild spaces translated into a political philosophy. He traveled the world to experience beautiful landscapes. Chamonix, France, was a place of special significance to him. He deeply loved the mountains and canyonlands of Colorado and Utah. In his professional life as an attorney, Adam was an effective advocate for individuals, families and small businesses facing sometimes overwhelming tax issues. Kelly was his companion in exploration and adventure. A memorial service was held in Rye, NY.
