Arthur Bernstein Obituary

Art passed away peacefully on September 5th at his home in Boulder with his family present. He was born in New Haven, CT to Max and Ethel Bernstein, the youngest of three sons. Art grew up in New Haven. He served in the Air Force from March 1943 to August 1946. He graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1949. After graduation he worked for several government agencies and engineering companies. He switched from structural engineering to the new field of computers in 1960. He accepted a position at Univac (now unisex) where he rose to advanced manager of competitive product analysis. He and his life partner of nearly sixty years, Shirley Guralnick Bernstein, now a retired nurse, met in Baltimore and married April 29, 1956. Art is survived by his four children, Dr. Laurel Bender of Bloomington, IN, Barbara Adde of Arlington, VA, James Bernstein of Brisbane, CA and Dr. Marissa Bernstein of Trumble, CT and five grandchildren, Joseph, Julia, Ben, Ella and Max. Art was a lifelong scholoar of Jewish history and a member of Har Hashem Congregation of Boulder for twenty-five years. Art and Shirley moved to Boulder from Pennsylvania to retire in 1990. A one day shiva will be held at 4325 Chippewa Dr on Monday, September 7th from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Har Hashem Congregation.
