Eric, your name popped into my head today. In trolling you I came across your father's obit. I am sorry for your family's loss. It sounds as though he had an outstanding life.

Dr. Selbin, I took freshman chemistry under you at LSU in the summer of 1985. You inspired my interest in environmentalism and I still remember you preaching that water was one of our most precious resources. I later became a chemistry teacher myself thanks to your inspiration. I modeled many of my teaching methods after yours and tried to impress upon my students respect for nature and the environment. You have my utmost respect and I have never forgot you after all these years. May you rest in well- deserved peace. You inspired many dear doctor. God bless you.

Marion and the Selbin family,
I am so sorry to hear of Joel's passing. When I joined the LSU faculty in 1968, he was one of the stars of the department, and a man I came to admire greatly. He was a renowned chemist, a superb teacher, and a humanitarian with a big heart. At a time when this country needs more like him, the world is diminished by his loss. God bless him and you all. The world has lost a wonderful person in Uncle Joel. We loved him and remember him dancing and having a good time at our wedding. Our condolences go out to the entire family.

Dr Selbin was a great inspiration to his chemistry students at LSU. I had the pleasure of his leading a freshmen class in 1975. I have always remembered his lecture on floroclorocarbons and the dangers they posed. Also his nitras jokes. Paul Patterson, BS Accounting, LSU 1979,
