"Ramblin' Roy Scott" Earl J. Langland, 84, a longtime resident and accomplished musician of Mt. Pleasant, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 3, 2010, at his residence. He was born April 11, 1926, in Washington, Pa., a son of the late George J. and Clara Sconing Langland. Roy was a graduate of Chartiers Township High School. He then went on to serve in the Navy during World War II on the USNTC Great Lakes, Ill., and the USNAS in Miami, Fla., attaining the rank of Seaman Second Class. Roy was the owner/operator of the Hearth Shop in Mt. Pleasant for more than 20 years. He was a professional musician and entertainer since the age of 14 and a veteran of WW VA's World's original jamboree since 1947. His professional show name was "Ramblin' Roy Scott". He is pictured in Nashville's Hall of Fame and was an MGM recording artist. He has toured throughout the United States and Canada with his own band, Roy Scott and the Country Harmony Boys, for more than 30 years. He had his own on-air radio show in Wheeling, W.Va., for more than 27 years and was a former disc jockey for WPIT radio in Pittsburgh. In 1986, Roy was joined by his three daughters, Lois, Janice and Lori, as members of the Jamboree USA. His proudest accomplishment was his Gold Star in the Wheeling Walk of Fame. Ramblin' Roy Scott was recently nominated into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame. The legendary artist continued entertaining audiences until his untimely death on Nov. 3. Roy leaves to cherish his memories to his loving and devoted daughters, Lois Novakovich and her husband, Mark, of White Oak, Janice L. Langland, Lori L. Langland, both of Charleroi, and Juli A. King, of North Versailles; the love of his life, Midge Borza, of Mt. Pleasant; and his grandchildren, Eric D. Louttit, Nick A. Andrisko, Ellen R. Louttit, Ryan C. Novakovich, Taylor E. Andrisko, Shauna R. King, Noelle Novakovich and Candice Butala. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his siblings, George Langland, Mary Ullom, Margaret Miles and Ruth Langland Moore. In fulfilling Roy's final wishes, a private family gathering and celebration of life was held in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 West Pittsburgh St., Scottdale.
