Martha Cashmar Obituary

Martha M. Cashmar, 95, of Scottdale, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, in Scottdale Manor & Rehabilitation Center. Miss Cashmar was born Jan. 17, 1914, in Mt. Pleasant, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Joan Sternalski Kaczmarek. Martha was a member of the former Transfiguration Parish of Mt. Pleasant and had attended the former Hurst High School. She had worked as a technician-inspector for Westinghouse Corp. of Youngwood until her retirement. Martha was an avid reader, and could always be found at the public library. She was well-versed on many subjects, and loved a good debate on anything from politics, the economy and the environment to the movies and stars of Hollywood. She enjoyed her daily walks and listening to the radio talk shows, especially Rush Limbaugh. The lady with the "Bette Davis eyes" had a wonderful voice and loved to sing, always entertaining her family and friends with her favorite Sinatra songs. She loved her family, and was most kind and generous to all. Martha is survived by her loving family; her niece and caregiver, Beverly Cernuto and her husband, Terence, and their family, of Mt. Pleasant; by her brothers, Col. Frank T. Kaczmarek, of Alexandria, Va., and Edward Kaczmarek, of Omaha, Neb.; and by several other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Casimir Kaczmarek, Monsignor Mitchell Kaczmarek, Leo Kaczmarek, Joseph Kaczmarek, Helen Kolacinski, Lillian Toczek and Frances Kozak. As per Martha's wishes, there will be no hours of public visitation. Private graveside inurnment will be in Transfiguration Parish Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Arrangements have been entrusted to the GALONE-CARUSO FUNERAL HOME, 204 Eagle St., Mt. Pleasant.
