Our father, Robert "Bob" C. Lewis, age 94 of Woodland passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. He was born in Bucyrus, Ohio, on Dec. 30, 1918 to Elton I and Nina Francis Jane Rule Lewis of Galion, Ohio. As a youth Bob enjoyed sailing in the Nantucket with friends and family. He graduated from Westwood N. J. High School. He assisted his father in the movie theater business and was a member and past president of the Westwood Junotarans at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Bob enlisted himself in the U.S. Army on May 9, 1942. Bob stayed in the European Theater after the war ended to assist in writing the history of the 7th Army Division which now belongs to the Congressional Library in Washington, DC. He returned to the USA and married his fiancée, Rita Ann Callaghan of Suffern, N.Y., on Jan. 19, 1946. They were happily married for 55 years and raised four "military brats," Nancy Rule, Jody Kathleen, Kevin Andrew and Nina Cecilia. Bob served his country well in the next 27 years in Europe, Korea and Vietnam, earning the Bronze Star with three oak clusters for valor in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. A true "mustang," Bob achieved every rank from private to lieutenant colonel, retiring at Fort Ord on Sep. 30, 1969. Subsequent civilian jobs included administrator of convalescent homes in Woodland, San Luis Obispo, and Monterey. He also enjoyed working in human resources in Pebble Beach and for the Woodland Aquarium. It should also not go unmentioned that he was selected as Mr. Yolo County Senior Division in the bodybuilding contest in October 1993 at the age of 76 his favorite quote "The true way to be deceived is to think oneself more knowing than others."
Rita, his wife of 55 years died in Woodland on Feb. 11, 2000. It was a marriage full of life and love. Bob would continue to cherish life and love and married Natalie Wasilevsky in 2004. Natalie brought her three children, Larissa, Dimitri, and Nadia into the always expanding family. Bob is survived by his wife Natalie, daughters Nancy Brown and Jody Powers, son Kevin Lewis and wife Melinda, daughter Nina Schoordijk and husband Hans. There are nine grandchildren, Cori Lucido, Adam Clarke, Gallatin Powers, Lindsay, Hans-Erik, Lauren Schoordijk, Jennifer, Andy, and Monica Lewis.
