Traynham, Barbara Henle
March 1, 1924 - Aug. 18, 2016 Barbara Henle Traynham, a native Californian and longtime Woodland resident, passed away peacefully in her home on Aug. 18. Born March 1, 1924 in Robbins, CA to parents George and Leone Henle. She is survived by her son, Kirk Traynham of San Pedro, CA, her niece, Duffy Traynham of Windsor, CA, and her nephews, Thomas Henle of Balboa Island, CA and William Henle of Sacramento. Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan; her husband, Robert and her brother, Jack Henle. A graduate of Woodland High School, Barbara attended college at the University of California, Berkeley, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority, and earned her degree in History studies. She married Robert (Bob) Traynham, who was a Sutter Basin farmer, just as her father was, and they settled in Woodland to make their home. Throughout the years, the family enjoyed regular excursions for sightseeing and boating, and had a membership to the Yolo Fliers Club where they took pleasure in playing golf. The Traynham's were longtime owners of a timeshare property at Waikiki, Hawaii where they visited each February during the farming off season to relax and play golf, a tradition Barbara continued until just a few years ago. Barbara was a devoted homemaker, an avid water skier, airplane pilot, and gourmet cook who was particularly fond of preparing and dining on duck and pheasant during the hunting season. When Barbara was widowed in her mid-50's, she became a career woman, quickly learning the complex business of farming, and successfully assuming the responsibility for operations of the family farm. Barbara was socially active and a friend to many. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church Altar Guild, the Omega Nu Sorority chapter, and several other local women's clubs. The family extends sincere thanks to her caregivers including those from Home Instead who have provided Barbara with outstanding home care, the nurses of Sojourn Hospice, and particularly Linda Strickland, night time caregiver and Lyn Mazur, private RN case manager. Additionally, the family expresses appreciation to Barbara's personal friend and adviser John Perry and his assistant, Kay Barklow. Graveside services will be held at Monument Hill Memorial Park, 35036 County Road 22, Woodland on Friday, Aug. 26, at 11 a.m., where Barbara will be interred alongside her husband and daughter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to any Alzheimer's research foundation or other charity of the donor's choice.
