Edgar, Harold R.  
Aug. 2, 1917 - Aug. 12, 2015 Harold R. Edgar died in Woodland Aug. 12, at the age of 98. Harold was born in Liscomb, TX on Aug. 2, 1917 and was a Yolo County resident for 67 years. He retired with Layne-Western Company, formally E E Luhdorff after 45 years. Harold entered the Army in 1940 and was later transferred to Squadron 826 with the B24 bombers as a Staff Sergeant during WWII. He served in Italy and Africa and is authorized to wear the Distinguished Unit Badge, a good conduct Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with two campaign stars. Harold was married to Ulva Jean Edgar for 60 years. He was a lifelong member of Senior Center, NRA, Yolo Sportsman, Elks and California Wildlife Association. Survivors include daughters, Barbara Hannagan, Cynthia Dawley, Anita Agnew; son, Harold Edgar, Jr.; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A private memorial will be set at a later date.

Miller, Opal K. (Epperson)  
Nov. 3, 1920 - June 20, 2015 The world lost a remarkable woman who took great pride in loving and taking care of her family and friends. Opal was born Nov. 3, 1920 in Healdton, OK. She married Billy R. Miller in 1938, together they had two children, son, Robert "Bobby" born in 1939 and daughter, Nancy born in 1940. Opal worked for Safeway in Palmdale, for 23 years, after retiring, she moved to Woodland, where she lived for 35 years. Opal touched the lives of many while volunteering at the adult daycare center, attending many outings where she assisted by pushing wheelchairs and helping those with special needs enjoy a fun day out. She also enjoyed reading, cooking and canning fruit. Opal passed peacefully on June 20, at the age of 94, holding the hand of her son, Bobby. Opal was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Justice; husband, Billy R. Miller; daughter, Nancy Walker; mother, Nancy "Mama" Hageman; nephew, Fritz Huthsing and sister, Evelyn Huthsing. Opal is survived by her son, Robert "Bobby" Miller; grandsons, Michael, David and Jeffrey Walker; great grandchildren, Allison, Michelle and Jonathan Walker; nephew, Larry Justice and his children, Aimee and Julie; niece, Donna Freitas and her son Rick and nephew Henry Huthsing. Opal was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, she will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday. Aug. 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Woodside Park in Woodland. Flowers, gifts or donations are not necessary, just the present of your presence is needed while the family celebrates Opal's life.

Morgan, Prudy Magalene  
March 31, 1929 - Aug. 22, 2015 Prudy Magalene Morgan passed away Aug. 22, in Sacramento. She is survived by her three sons, David Morgan of Spokane, WA, Donald Morgan of Woodland, and Dennis Morgan of Wills Point, TX; two brothers, Ralph Forbis of Paragould, AR, and George Forbis of West Moreland, TN. She is also survived by five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Earl Morgan; her parents, Frank and Ellie Forbis; her brothers, Leon Forbis Jacob and Don Forbis of Paragould, AR, and James Dwight Forbis of Waco, TX, and one great-grandchild, Devon Wilson of Woodland. A visitation will be held at Woodland Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, Aug. 26 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with a graveside following at 2 p.m., at Woodland Cemetery.

Peterson, Melva Jane Myers  
July 17, 1920 - Aug. 11, 2015 Jane, as her family and friends called her, was born at home in Colusa to Theodore and Maud Myers, the third of their seven children. The family settled in Woodland when she was 11. Graduated from Woodland High School in 1938 she went on to attend cosmetology school in Sacramento. Married Ernest V. Peterson in 1943 and moved to Oakland. Worked as a hairdresser until she became a mom in 1952 and moved to Concord, where she was a homemaker until she went to work for JC Penney in 1970. She left there in 1981 when she and her husband moved back to Woodland where she lived until her death. Surivors include her daughter, Susan (Don) Gibison of Woodland; granddaughter, Nicole (Sean) Kenady of Oakley; grandson, Eric Gibison of Woodland; great grandchildren, Avelle and Bryce Kenady of Oakley; sister, Dorothy Wood of Bonners Ferry, ID; sister in law, Evalee Myers of Woodland; nephews, Dan Myers, Doug Dixon, Ron Watts, Brian Watts; nieces, Barbara Monroe, Shirley Watts, Debra Kemp, Sharon McKee, Sandy Ferguson, Terry Heidrick. Preceded in death by her husband of 57 years; her parents; brothers, Howard, Harold, and Jackson Myers; sisters, Cleo Watts and Shirley Dixon; nephew, Richard Watts and niece, Syndi Gillette. Per her wishes there will be no services. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Rettsydrome.org .

Pieretti, Robert C. (Bob)  
Aug. 21, in Woodland, at the age of 73. Born and raised in Walnut Grove, he attended Walnut Grove Elementary School, graduated from Courtland H.S., and graduated from Sacramento City College. He is survived by sister, Joanne (John) Morelli of Woodland; son, Dr. Robert Anthony Pieretti of Sacramento; nephews, Paul (Elisa) Pieretti, John (Andrea) Pieretti, Matthew Morelli; nieces, Karen (Paul) Carrillo, Melissa Morelli and Christine Morelli, six great nephews and one great niece. He was the son of the late Angelo and Marian Pieretti of Walnut Grove and was preceeded in death by brother, Donald Pieretti and sister-in-law, Kim Pieretti. Family and friends are invited on Friday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m., for a burial service at St. Mary's Cemetery in Sacramento, followed by a memorial mass that will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Church in Walnut Grove at 12 noon. The family requests donations be made to St. Anthony's Church in Walnut Grove, or the Walnut Grove Fire Department.

Rye, Janet B.  
Feb. 23, 1931 - Aug. 17, 2015 Janet was born on Feb. 23, 1931, the eldest child of Gust and Beatrice Johnson. She passed away on Aug. 17, after a 20-month battle with cancer. Janet was born in San Francisco and raised in San Anselmo along with her brother Robert. She lived in Woodland for most of five decades. She resided in Oakland for the past 15 months. Janet graduated with honors from Tamalpias High School and UC Berkeley. After the birth of her three children, she continued her education by receiving a teaching credential from UC Davis. Janet taught in the Washington Unified School District (West Sacramento) for over 25 years, retiring in 1992. She volunteered for a number of local organizations and remained active in the community until the time of her cancer diagnosis. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William Wirth; her daughter, Kristin Wirth; her brother, Robert, and her second husband, Jack Rye. She is survived by her sons, Eric Wirth (Sue) and Neil Wirth (Barbara); son-in-law, Ron Chung; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her family wishes to thank Janet's caregivers at Lake Park and Sutter/Alta Bates for their loving care over the past 20 months. Her family has arranged for a private memorial and internment services. Takimoto, Hisayo  
July 6, 1925 - Aug. 19, 2015 Hisayo Takimoto passed away peacefully, after a stroke, Wednesday, Aug. 19 at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento at the age of 90. She was also known as "Edna" to many throughout her life. Hisayo was born July 6, 1925, in Sacramento to the late Kanta and Hatsuye Ogata. She attended Laugenour School near Woodland, and attended Woodland High School until she and her family were placed in an internment camp in Amache, CO. After the war, she returned to California with her family. In 1947, she married Hideo Takimoto. They lived in Knights Landing, where she became a hard working wife of a tomato grower, while also being a very active parent to Stephen and Lois. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and sewed dance costumes and helped back stage for Lois' group performances. The family moved to Woodland, in 1962. Her mother had a stroke in 1966, and Hisayo devoted her time to caring for her. She resided in Yolo County for about 68 years, and in Woodland for the last 53 years. Survivors include son, Stephen Takimoto (Glenda) of Orangevale; daughter, Lois Kawata (Paul) of Newcastle, and grandchildren, Josh, Ashley, Jordan and Justin Takimoto, Travis and Tara Kawata. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Shizue Ogata of Mountain View. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hideo and brother, Hajime Ogata. Stephen, and the family, acknowledge and thank the staff at St. John's Retirement Village, and particularly the Personal Care Unit for the love and care they gave Hisayo for the last four years. The family requests remembrance in Mrs. Takimoto's name be directed to the charity of donor's choice. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 27 at 2 p.m., at the Sacramento Buddhist Church at 2401 Riverside Blvd., Sacramento.

Dec. 29, 1925 - Aug. 23, 2015 Albertina Marie Thomas, 89, of Woodland, passed away Aug. 23. She is survived by her two sons, William and Wayne Thomas of Woodland; one sister, Delores Santos and two nephews, Guy and Kirby Pedroia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Thomas. There will be a private service only.
