Charlotte Simpson Buchignani
June 6, 1927 – July 20, 2013
Charlotte Simpson Buchignani, 86, passed away quietly after a brief illness the morning of Saturday, July 20, 2013. She was born on June 6, 1927 in Woodland to Norman and Agnes Simpson. She was a lifelong resident of Woodland and a third generation of Yolo County. While growing up Charlotte attended Dingle Grammar School and graduated from Woodland High in 1945. She also took business classes at Yuba Jr. College before it became Woodland Community College.
Charlotte worked in the office at the Contadina Cannery where she met her lifelong friend, Gloria Willis Falvey. She worked at the Daily Democrat as an assistant editor with Mary Goetz and knew Gary Traynham as a young sports writer. She then became a partner/bookkeeper for Buchignani and Sons until she retired. Charlotte also moonlighted as a hostess for Michelle's Carrousel, a prominent restaurant in downtown Woodland.
Charlotte was an avid reader and a member of the Friends of the Woodland Public Library. She was a 65 year member of Holy Rosary Church and a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, Parlor No. 90.
Charlotte is survived by her children Stacy Buchignani-Gale (Michael), Marty Buchignani, and Brian Buchignani (Janet); grandsons Ben and Anthony Buchignani, business partner and husband Robert M. Buchignani and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Norman and Agnes Simpson, sister Norma Simpson and beloved son David Buchignani.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6, at McNary's Funeral Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland. A mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland. The burial will follow the mass at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 860 West St., Woodland. Memorial contributions may be directed to Friends of the Woodland Library, Animal Services Shelter, or the SPCA of Yolo County. McNary's Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
