Eleanor Ellsberg, a resident of Woodland from 1989 to 1993 and active member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, in Santa Barbara following a severe case of pneumonia.
Eleanor had spent the last 20 years enjoying life in Santa Barbara and the company of her daughter, Claudia.
Born on Dec. 30, 1923, in Minneapolis, (Mary) Eleanor was the only child of Ida and William Budrow. Following graduation from Macalester College in 1944, she married Lt. Gordon Lyle Grant, and they began raising a family. Gordon died in 1948 and Eleanor returned to Macalester College to further her education in theater arts. In 1949 Eleanor married Leonard Severt Gaustad and they moved from Minneapolis to Glen Ellen, Ill., and then in 1957 they relocated with their growing family to Marin County.
Eleanor's love of the theater continued her entire life. She taught drama and speech at San Rafael High School, coached professionally and was always active in community theater productions. In 1971 Eleanor received a Master's degree in Education from Dominican College.
Eleanor married for a third time in 1972 and she and her husband, Alan Ellsberg moved from San Rafael to Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and then to Las Vegas where they established and ran the Ellsberg School of Real Estate until Alan's death in 1989.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her three husbands and son, Marshall William Gaustad. She is survived by her four daughters; Susan Lylle Corbin of Lopez Island, Washington, Katherine Heidi Douglas of Davis, Claudia Louise Gaustad of Santa Barbara and Linda Sherry Method of Olathe, Kan. Also by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
