Elwood Rufferson Lowell, 57, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 in Woodland.
He was born on May 19, 1955 to the late Burnam and Victoria Lowell in Woodland. Elwood went to High School in Red Bluff where he finished 11th grade. In 1973 Elwood met and married Merrena Francis Cook in Gerber, Ca and they had two children named Burnam and Samantha Lowell. He also had an older son Matthew Dudly Lowell from a previous marriage. Elwood enjoyed playing softball, fishing, and hunting. He worked as a farm laborer and equipment operator. Years later he became a tribal member of Cache Creek Casino Resort in Brooks. Elwood and his family settled in Brooks in 1984 where he lived the remainder of his life.
Elwood is survived by his wife Merrena Cook of Brooks; brother David Perez; sister Tammy Perez; sons Matthew Lowell (Debbie) and Burnham Lowell (Barbara); daughter Samantha Byrd (Carl); 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Burnam and Victoria Lowell; sister Karen Lowell and grandchildren Joel and Mark Lowell.
Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, April 8, at McNarys Funeral Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland. Funeral services will be held also at McNary's Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 9, and will be officiated by Pastor Harrel Wiley of New Life Christian Center. Burial will be at the Capay Cemetary, 24727 County Road 22, Esparto.
