Gwendolyn Marie Krewson Eve, passed on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, in Grass Valley. Gwendolyn lived in Woodland for more than 50 years before relocating. Gwendolyn was born in Mt. Etna, Ind., on Dec. 8, 1920. She was 91 years old.
Gwendolyn, a proud alumni of Ball State University (Class of 1943), was employed as a worker in the cafeteria at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., where she met and married her beloved husband, Arthur N. Eve, in 1942 during WWII. As members of The Greatest Generation, Gwendoly had her first child, Mary Eve (Peek) in Brownwood, Texas, three days before Arthur sailed for service in the U.S. Army to join troops in Europe. Their second child, Theresa June, was born in Chico, one year after Arthur's return from France.
Gwendolyn was a home economics major who completed studies at Chico State University to secure her elementary teaching certificate. After the birth of their third child, JoAnne (Ellsworth) Gwendolyn began her full-time career as a Woodland educator teacing mostly second grade and kindergarten at Gibson and Dingle elementary schools.
Gwendolyn was associated with the Pink Ladies at Woodland Memorial Hospital, Beta Sigma Phi, and American Association of University Women.
Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur N. Eve, and sister, Etta June Lucas.
The daughters of Gwendolyn Eve would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Banner Crest Assisted Living in Nevada City and Hospice of the Foothills for their loving and thoughtful care.
A vigil will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at McNary's Funeral Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland. A rosary will follow at 7 p.m., also at McNary's Funeral Chapel. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24, also at McNary's.
