Jack Robert Buchanan, aged 90, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, in Bethlehem, Penn. Jack was born in Santa Paula, and served as a weatherman in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and in the Air Force Reserves after the war. He graduated from UC Berkeley and was employed by the University of California as a soils scientist and researcher, retiring from UC Davis Department of Pomology. With wife Marian, they raised two daughters, Karen and Melanie, while living in Davis.
Jack was a long-standing active member of the Presbyterian Church, most recently a member of the Woodland Presbyterian Church congregation. He enjoyed participating in church activities, playing the piano and organ, and photography.
Jack is survived by daughter Karen Buchanan, and step-daughters Robyn Henry and Jody Lawrence. He was preceded in death by wives Marian Buchanan and Shirley Lawrence Buchanan, as well as daughter Melanie Buchanan.
