James Taylor Molson, Jr.

James Taylor Molson, Jr. was born in Woodland on April 14, 1936. Jim, as he preferred to be called, was the son of the late James Taylor Molson, Sr. and Addie (Logan) Molson. Jim was the first African American baby to be born in the Woodland Clinic. Jim died on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, in Woodland Memorial Hospital.
Jim was a graduate of Esparto Union High School in the Class of 1955. He was honorably discharged from the California National Guard in 1960. He worked for several years in the Employment Development Department, state Department of California, until a disability forced his early retirement in 1979.
Jim never married. For several years he was a resident of The Californian, a retirement home where he lived from May 1993 until June 2012. He moved to Alderson Convalescent Hospital on June 1, 2012, where he was living at the time of his death.
Jim is survived by his sister Jeannette L. Molson, and niece Michele L. Davenport, both of Woodland; nephew and niece-in-law, Thomas and Jennifer Davenport, of West Sacramento; uncle Carver D. Logan, of Hawaii; former brother-in-law Tom Davenport of Woodland; cousins Kathryn Urey-Dennis and Burdie Urey-Weeks; and numerous cousins, other family members, and lots of friends.
Services will be held at Kraft Brothers Funeral home, 175 Second St., Woodland, at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 2, with interment following at Monument Hill Memorial Park, 35036 CR-22, Woodland at 1 p.m. The Repast will be held after the services at the United Methodist Church Social Hall across the street from Kraft Bros. Funeral home. Donations may be made in his name to the or to any organization of the donor's choice.
